Day 6: Las Vegas to Zion, UT

After a successful night at the tables in Vegas we hit the road for a long drive through Utah, hoping for Wyoming. We had planned for a brief stop in Zion before resuming the drive but we were so taken by the breathtaking views at Zion that we decided to explore it a bit further and spend the night.

Zion is effectively a deep canyon with the Virgin River running through it. We happened upon the perfect time for this road trip- it's 'off-season' yet most things are still open, so we miss the crowds without missing any of the views. In fact Zion was perhaps at its most beautiful as all the trees were in peak color. We did a couple quick hikes and even managed to bring Kaya along despite the posted signs. Enjoyed a nice sunset with a spectacular view with about 30 other camera aficionados- some of them had been there for a week just to get a nice photo. Nuts.

In the morning I went for a run with Kaya and Jenna biked along the river for a few miles in the hopes that we could burn some of the thousands of calories we've ingested and wear out Kaya for the long drive in the process.

Zion has been one of the prettiest places we've seen so far. Out of the way but definitely worth it.

Day 6:
Drive: 132 miles, 80mph, 12.7mpg
Total: 1363 miles, 69mph, 14.2mpg
